Why is it that I have to pay to have my iPhone fixed when it is a factory defect?

True face is a factory defect so why is Apple not replacing true face canera for free?

Trade In - faulty Face ID Hello, I am looking to trade in my current phone for an upgrade I currently have the iPhone XR - 128GB when going through to trade in it asks me for the condition of my phone front & back cameras, all buttons, screen and general phone body is all in very good condition there is a fault with the Face ID however i am just enquiring as to ask how much would I get for trade in price? thanks Lloyd

If your device needs repair out of warranty you will have to pay for it.

Face ID not working is not necessarily a factory defect.
