iMac Freezes once a week

My 2015 iMac 27-inch is by far the best computer I have ever owned! Love it. Starting a few months ago, it appears that every 7 days it locks up/freezes and I need to reboot. I do that and all is fine.

What is the best way to fix this? Clearly there is something on the iMac that it doesnt like. Can I run anything to clean the hard disk? I run Bitdefender AV to combat viruses.

I want to avoid having to back up all and erase/reformat drive. Having to install all my programs, files etc.... no one wants to do that. :) But, its been 7 years so I may need to.

Get rid of any antivirus apps A.S.A.P. because they are the ones that typically cause panics and other serious issues.

You will find that without that extra, your Mac will run smoother than it has ever been.

If you have no backups for a 7 year period, I strongly suggest you do that asap. You have a possibly failing computer; no backups has the very real potential of losing ALL of 7 years worth of data.

+2, running any computer without backing up is shortsighted and a guarantee of losing all of your data. Would you trust your bank if you knew they did not backup your financial information?
