Cables for new MAC desktop
Just bought a new MAC desktop. Infuriating. I can't set it up because I need cables to connect my CD and anything like thumb drives that connected to my old MAC with the ports it had (USB-C). HELP!

Your old Mac has USB-A ports (amongst other things). Your new Mac has USB-C ports.
You need either an adapter for each of your devices or a USB dock with multiple USB-A Ports.
For example:

For example:
If you look on Amazon you will find a large number of adapters (not too expensive) which will allow you to adapt your USB devices to your new Mac.
The old style large USB plugs are USB-A and the small reversible ports on your iMac are USB-C
So to connect an CD player with USB-A plug you need to search for a USB-A female to USB-C male adapter
Another option which I use is a USB-A to USB hub with multiple USB-A ports to allow you to plug more than one peripheral to be plugged in.
Im sorry? We just gave you an answer.
You need adapters or a hub. There’s nothing more to it.
Not sure what more of an answer you are looking for.
All new Macs have USB-C ports. some are also Thunderbolt ports, but the small pill shape is the USB-C type connector.
The devices in the 2 links I provided above will absolutely work with a Mac.
Your old Mac had USB-A Ports, the rectangular type.
USB is "Universal Serial Bus". It can have different cable ends/ terminations depending in the particular series: A, C Mini and etc.
"USB" is generally considered to be USB-A but that is a misnomer, USB is a generic term used in various more specific applications.
Thanks for trying. It is absolutely amazing that anybody who has a prior Mac desktop and buys a new one is going to have to go through the same crap. I have contacted Apple, tried chat, and spoken to their support. It is absolutely incredible that nobody can give me an answer.

You obviously haven't been around the world of personal computers very long...
How many people in here had or knew someone who had a Zip drive with a SCSI interface... raise your hand... ✋
I think the new MAC has no USB ports, it has lightning things, etc. I cannot connect USB-C cables to the new device.
These devices on Amazon absolutely will NOT work on a new MAC desktop.
You are so right, I have owned only 80+ computers (11 now) since I built one in 1976.
And you didn't see this transition coming?
Even more, you have the gall to complain about it?
Wow...
