Can i still use an iphone4

Can i still use a iphone4 i bought it and im pretty sure its never been set up before i know they are pretty old but i broke my current phone and a friend happened to have it so ofcorse I bought it before I gave it much thought and its my first IOS device so I have no idea how to make it work
