I can hear people, but they cant hear me.

No-one can hear me on the phone. Doesn't matter if they call me or i call them, its a bit dodgy though, sometimes people can hear me and other times they can't, or it cuts out half way through a problem. Is this fixable do you think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.. 🙂
ohhhh and if i put my hands free on it seems to work fine...

I have the same exact issue with my microphone. People can only hear me if I use bluetooth or handsfree. I went to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store and the technician hadn't seen the issue before. All he did was try a restore and that did not fix it. He said my only option was to buy a new phone. I'm hoping that the next software update will fix the issue.

I am having the same exact problem. iOS 4.0.1 on iPhone 4. My voice record works. Genius offered to replace the phone. I declined wanting to see if restore would work... It did not. AT&T re-registered my iPhone. Still having the problem. I'm wondering if a new SIM might fix the issue. I'd prefer to NOT have to get a replacement iPhone, only after a month and get one of the refurbs, that are just... meh. I've reset network settings. Voice Record works, Skype works, Video Camera audio works... FACETIME works!!! Apple, what is going on?

Same problem here, but it comes and goes. Sometimes they hear me, other times they don't. The person who can't hear me sometimes is on the Cellular One network. I wonder if it's a network specific or a phone specific problem?

I'm ******. I just exchanged my new iPhone for another one because of the OS download bug (killed my first iphone). Now this...

Same problem for me too. And for me too it comes and goes.
No matters if people hear me from cell line or from wired line. No voice out from the device.
Restoring the phone it works for 10mins, then it stops working.
Sent my iphone to apple twice, but they've sent it back to me saying they can't find the problem. I'm waiting for the phone to be back from apple (2nd time), then i'll call'em for the 10th time and try to make them change my faulty iphone.
it suc*s.

Having similar problem here only the other way around. The people on the other end of the phone can hear me but I get no sound at all. I can communicate if I plug in the earphones or put the caller on loud speaker. When this fault is occurring I also lose most sounds from my phone. Instead of getting an incoming message noise it only vibrates. I also lose all keypad and lock etc sounds. This problem comes and goes and is truly annoying. The phone is still under warranty but it will be an inconvenience trying to have this problem rectified. It would be interesting to know if it is a hardware problem or another problem created by the upgrade to this os system to 4.1. Either way it is a problem that Apple need to look at urgently as it appears to be fairly wide spread from my research on these boards. I suggest everyone who is having this problem also reports it via the feedback page on the apple site
