A WD My Book (2009 vintage)

How to correct a WD MyBook being used as backup for a Mac mini, that will not not complete (or even start) a back up.

A 2009 WD My Book backup drive is likely failing. Time to replace it with a newer device. WD drives are not known for their longevity.


Meanwhile, connect the drive to your Mac and launch Disk Utiity.

Once in Disk Utility, click View > Show All Devices. Select the WD drive and then click First Aid. If DU finds any problems then it will attempt to repair them. If it can't fix them it will let you know.
