New magic keyboard cursor lagging

I got a new iPad Pro 12.9in with a magic keyboard day before yesterday.

Whenever I switch applications, and come back to an application, the cursor lags and doesn’t let me type for a good 5 seconds. It happens mainly with Safari, not sure if it’s happening with other applications.

This also happens when I switch text boxes, so if I’m filling out a form and I switch to a different text box (I’ve tried this on multiple websites so it’s not the website’s problem) it lags, again for 5 or so seconds.

It also has a problem with clicking on links, when sometimes the first time I click it doesn’t register it. The second time I click it takes me to the website but there’s no back button or history of my previous google search that got me to that website.

Since this is a new iPad, it’s really frustrating there’s already multiple glitches.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that your Magic keyboard is lagging when trying to perform tasks on your new iPad Pro.

We'd like to provide you with some steps that may help resolve this issue:

1. Update your iPad to the latest version of iPadOS. Go to Settings and tap the Software Update

Available notification. If you don't see a notification, go to General > Software Update to see if an

update is available.

• If you're using Magic Keyboard, make sure that you have iPadOS 14.5 or later.

2. Remove any other iPad case or cover if you're using Magic Keyboard or Smart Keyboard Folio.

3. Connect your Magic Keyboard or Smart Keyboard / Smart Keyboard Folio.

4. If your keyboard doesn't immediately respond, restart your iPad.

5. If your keyboard is not connecting, or if you're experiencing issues unrelated to connecting, contact Apple Support.
