Messages from Apple watch

Question, a family member of mine just found out that she cannot receive notifications of any messages. The notification pops up on her iPhone but not her apple watch. She has everything connected, she's signed in to her icloud and her watch is synced to her phone. Is there something she could do to fix this problem?
