downloaded itunes on windows 7, itunes says its on current version but iphone will not update unless its on latest version of itunes

i downloaded itunes to windows 7. im trying to restore an old iphone 7 that has the apple logo stuck. after doing research i held buttons down to restore while on itunes and it says cant restore unless itunes is on latest version. so i check for updates and says its on current version. the phone is like new, only used for a couple of months until apple logo got stuck, im trying to use it a temp phone until i can get current one repaired or purchase a new one. Has anyone else run into this issue or know how to resolve this? i can follow basic unstructions, but not computer savy.

Windows 7 and 8 are both limited to iTunes 12.10.10.2. You need iTunes 12.12.0.6 or better to work with iOS 15, which in turn requires Windows 10 or 11 to install. You may be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Reinstalling iTunes should not impact your library, but you ought to have a backup.

It won't. You will have the same problem with Windows 8.

To install the latest version of iTunes (which on the day of writing this is 12.12.4.1), you have to use either Windows 10 or Windows 11.

You need Windows 10 to install the current version of iTunes. The last build available to Windows 7 cannot restore devices to iOS 15.

I have a similar issue but i have windows 8 and I found this page for a new version for itunes Windows 8 or 10.

The problem is I have to reintall itunes which i hesitate to do as I'm afraid I will lose the itunes back up or contents?

You can try to see if windows 8 version works for you.
