Printer Icon inside "show in finder"
A while back I installed a local print driver for a Kyocera printer. The icon of the printer used in the print driver wasn't an exact match, but it functioned perfectly fine so I kept it. Just recently, the same printer has been reconfigured as a network printer - so instead of the printer being connected to the USB port it's now connected via Ethernet CAT5e to the router.
All devices (including the computer I'm using) connect and print successfully.
Being a MAC user, I always liked how the icons appear exactly like the make & model of the printer being used. When I was using the previous USB driver, I quickly realized the icon showing on the DOC wasn't a match to the printer, but have learned to live with it. But a light bulb entered my brain, so I decided to delete the printer from the preferences and re-install using a newer set of drivers.
So far so good! The icon at the DOC is actually correct now! During printing, if I "right-mouse" click on the DOC's printer icon to "show in finder" I can also see the thumbnail icons in this other window. But to my surprise, the icon showing in *THIS* location is still the older version. If I rename the printer to something else (even just changing or adding 1 character) the icon magically changes to the correct version. Also, if I highlight the printer and choose "get info" the correct icon shows in those windows. If I highlight the printer and choose "show view options" an interesting thing happens. If I select to use larger icons, the graphic increases in size and magically changes to the correct printer! If I revert back to the smaller icon, it unfortunately switches to the incorrect version.
I tried restarting my computer, and there is no rebuilding of the desktop in Mac OS X (or higher) from my understanding.
So... I was hoping someone might know where the actual thumbnail bitmap graphics are stored on the Mac OS. I was thinking I could possibly force the issue by removing (or changing) the original icon somehow. I know this is totally OCD but it's frustrating why things can't be consistent across the board. I also tried a complete uninstall of the driver, but Kyocera's Uninstall utility doesn't see any drivers to remove.
Thanks in advance!
