I accidentally clicked (under General-iPad storage) to auto delete conversations after a year without realizing that you can’t un-Click it. Will going under Messages and selecting Keep Message Forever negate this step? Why can’t it be undone? Thank you.

Once done, it's done. You can change the setting as you've learned. But messages deleted previously are deleted.

Thank you for the info. Wish Apple wouldn’t do that. At least warn you that once it is done you can’t change it back.
