Erase pending on stolen IPhone

My IPhone 13 was stolen. I reported it and it is locked. I did an erase on it but it is pending erase until it connects to the internet, same with the Apple Pay card on it, Can I remove it from my account or should I wait until it connects and erased? I have it tracked on “find my” it is another state and the police actually went to the location but people denied having it ,of course. Anyway , my question is can I remove it from my account if it has an erase pending?

Hi gotsummerfever,

It would not be recommended to remove an iPhone from your account until there is confirmation of the data being erased as removing it from your account also removes Activation Lock.

The device would automatically erase as soon as it reconnects to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. Once the erase triggers, you'd receive a confirmation email to your Apple ID.

See more details about what erasing a device entails here: Erase a device in Find My iPhone on iCloud.com - Apple Support

Cheers!
