After deleting & compressing, Monterey downloaded, but now it is asking for what it should have in the beginning for a disk. The storage is ample, but now the disk does not have ample space. Can anyone help on disk issue? Thank you.

If you cleared up adequate storage...including emptying your Trash
try launching the installer from a safeboot

from /Applications/ "Install macOS Monterey.app" you can launch it like any other application.
