iOS 15.5 Exposure Notifications 27% Battery Drain

The Exposure Notifications function consumed 27% of my battery on 6/9/22 and is already at 18% after four hours today. This is on an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Typically, it runs around 6-10% per day.

I turned off Exposure Notifications and re-enabled but it didn't fix the issue. Have it off for now.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Kenny

Hello dsnymgc,

It will take time after you change a setting for it t reflect in the battery usage. Looking at the battery usage, there are two options, the past 24 hours, and the last 10 days.

Changing the setting, still shows how much has been used the past 24 hours. You will need to wait after the 24 hours from changing to see the outcome.

Next, please check your settings, as some simple changes can really help extend the life of your battery. This article should help you check: iPhone Battery and Performance - Apple Support

It may also be beneficial to disable Background App Refresh for the apps that you do not normally use. This article talks about Background App refresh: Switch apps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Also, the testing for iPhone batteries are described here: iPhone General Battery Information - Apple Support

Where the settings are all default, any deviation from these settings on your device will reduce the battery life: “All settings were default except: Bluetooth was paired with headphones; Wi-Fi was associated with a network; the Wi-Fi feature Ask to Join Networks, Auto-Brightness, and True Tone were turned off.”

Now that you are adjusting your settings, you may get longer battery charge, and also longer battery life.

Thanks.

Note that it consumed 27% of the total battery consumption for the day, not 27% of the battery capacity. so if you started at 100% and are now at 18% your total battery usage was 82% of capacity. That app thus used 27% of 82%, or 22% of the total battery capacity. Still too much, however. But something else is also using a lot of energy if 82% of full charge was used, so look for that. And note that to get a good idea of whether something worked you need to wait at least 24 hours.
