is this itunes backup or icloud backup?

what error message are you getting if any

I am. trying to backup to Mac using Finder.

No. error messages. I just get the. unending barber pole.

I usually let the phone back itself up to the cloud in the background. But sometimes I connect with lightning cable - especially if I am transferring an audiobook from my Mac.

I plug it in, wait until it forces Photos to open.

Quit Photos.

Click on Back Up Now button.

wait. rinse. repeat. I have waited up to an hour without any success.

I am up to date on IOS and MacOS.

I restart both devices.

No change.

A first backup using a USB connection can take a long time. Perhaps more than an hour, depending on how much data you have on your iPhone.
