Neither iPad nor iPhone can Log Into SMB

I have a Nighthawk wifi router that has a small drive connected to it. I can log into this drive using Nighthawks “ReadyShare” server using my Windows 10 laptop, my MacPro with Snow Leopard, and my MacPro using Mojave via SMB. However, on my iPhone (latest iOS), I can see my USB_Storage folder, but when I try to open that folder, I get the following error…

Content Unavailable - The folder contents could not be displayed because of an unknown error.

I tried the same thing on my iPad (latest iOS), but could not even get the USB_Storage folder to appear. I get a different error.

The operation could not be completed. Invalid argument.

It is obvious from the two errors, and the fact that I am able to log in with both Windows 10, Snow Leopard, and Mojave are able to log in that this is a bug in both iOS applications, so I reported it as such.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is this an actual error in the software build?

Hello Schneb,

There are a few variables that may be at play as to whether an iPad or iPhone can read the files in the folder. .

What is the format of the drive they are on?

What type of files are these?

Is there an app on the iPhone that can read these files?

If you can provide more details as to what you are trying to do with these files, others here may be able to offer suggestions.

Have a good day.

FAT32

Can’t even log onto the drive. They are common folders with JPEGs

I would have no trouble reading them or opening them if I could log into the drive.

The files are not the problem, it is logging in to the drive from my iPhone or iPad. I log in with my Windows laptop, my Mac Pro running Snow Leopard, and my Mac Pro running Mojave.
