iPhone 6s restarting loop

iPhone 6s kept restarting over and over for no apparent reason, draining the battery in a few minutes. Tried everything, including updating the software (which failed) and finally after many attempts, finally tried to restore. This also failed because the update failed (error code 9). now I can't get out of the restore mode and can't use the phone at all.
