Sony HVR M25AU

We have been trying to capture mini DV tape on this Sony mini DV tape machine to 2017 Mac Pro. We originally have tried just through HDMI hookup. Sony HVR M25AU is not listed on Apple approved devices any longer. We have the Sony DSR 250 that the footage was originally captured on mini DV (still trying to find the batteries and I don't think the DSR 250 is on the Apple approved device list either).

Trying to use Adobe Premier or iMovie or Quicktime. NOTHING.

Hopefully all our mini DV tapes taken over the years are not useless as we proceed to alternatives...

Have purchased adapters-2 of: Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter: elago FireWire 400 to 800 Adapter (White) for Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, iMac and All Other ComputersBizlander Premium Firewire DV Cable for Camcorder Sony Canon Sharp JVC IEEE1394, 6Ft (1.8M) Black 6 Pin to 4 Pin Male to Male for Digital CameraApple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 AdapterBRENDAZ - Ultra Speed FireWire Cable – Premium Quality 9-pin Male to 4-pin

Male DV Cable Works with Cameras, Laptop, MacBooks Pro, Camcorders, etc. – 800Mbps (6-Feet)-

All the adapters should be here tomorrow.

Am trying to follow Grant Bennet-Alders guidance with hook up. We are running Monterey 12.3.1 If this doesn't work would purchasing an HP or other computer work? Or if we purchase 'Debut Video Capture' program for Mac work to capture the mini DV video to digital format? Or should I try on my MacBook Air?

Thank you in advance for your help and assistance in the above matter.

Monterey 12.3 and 12.3.1 has a bug preventing capture from tape.

Apple released update 12.4 which fixed the bug.

There might be some other reason, of course ,that is preventing tape capture such as faulty cables.

Also , HDMI hook-up will not work.

You will need the FireWire cable and the Thunderbolt 2 and 3 adaptors for this to work.
