Message pins

Why do messages keep getting pinned when I do not select them to be pinned? Is there a way to turn off the pin feature in messages?

You can unpin any of your pinned conversations by pressing and holding against any of those conversations to open a windows menu, and then tapping "Unpin" in the menu.
