Remote content settings in Apple mail

Hi Apple community,

I have an apple mac running Monterey 12.4, I am trying to reduce the amount of spam and junk and understand that one of the best ways to do this is to stop remote content loading in emails (as discussed here for example Identify and filter junk mail in iCloud – Apple Support (AU))

However, when I go to switch remote content off (Mail/preferences/privacy/Block all remote content I can only choose to 'block all remote content' if I also choose to switch OFF the 'Protect Mail activity' option. While I do not know what protect mail activity does, it sounds pretty good. My two questions then are as follows:

Firstly, is there a way that I can have 'protect mail activity' on and 'block all remote content'; and

Secondly, if not and I have to choose between one or the other option, which one is better for stopping spam, 'protect mail activity' or 'block all remote content'?

Thank you

Hello EduardoEspinoza,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

If we understand your post correctly, you want to know if there is a way to have Protect mail activity and block all content. You'd also like to know if this option isn't available which one would be the best to have enabled. We're happy to help!

The Mail app can help protect your privacy. Email messages you receive may include remote content that allows a sender to collect information when you view a message, such as when and how many times you view it, whether you forward it, your IP address, and other data. Mail Privacy Protection prevents senders from learning your information.
If you didn’t turn on Protect Mail Activity when you first opened Mail in macOS Monterey, you can do so in Mail preferences.

Use Mail Privacy Protection on Mac

Another great article about Mail Privacy Protection and blocking all remote content is this article: If you see 'Unable to load remote content privately' at the top of an email
