Connecting Oppo UDP-205 to Mac

Hi,

i have been in discussions with them.

the « drivers » could not be opened by Monterey.

They tell me that Macs don’t need drivers, what I was trying to open was more of an Firmware upgrade tool.

per earlier note, the DAC version loaded on the machine is USB-0000…I suspect that the driver didn’t load properly from…or, perhaps the factory default firmware is « 0000 »

i cannot upgrade the firmware because the Mac ins’t communicating with the unit.

i have the Oppo connected directly to the Mac via a Printer cable (USB B into the Oppo and USB A to the MacBook).

Sînce this MacBook does not have a USB A, I used a dongle to convert the USB A to USB C.

Both the cable and the dongle work as I have tested them in other machines/setups.

I spoke to Apple Support: it was disappointing, to be honest.

The technician blamed the Oppo.

I asked if there is anything I could do in case a « Printer » or-any other device-doesn’t mount, what can I do?

The answer was that if one connects a device and the device doesn’t show, well, the issue is with the device.

Apple hardware/software is great when things work…when they don’t, there is not much support for advanced troubleshooting.

I am planning on sending the unit to Oppo (at great cost!) so that they can update the unit and ascertain that it will show when connected to a Mac.
