In such a situation, I suggest that you use a back cover and a good screen protector on your device.

Not to mention, keeping a phone in your pants pocket can result in it getting crushed against something. I agree with ProustGiulio that you should put a case on it.
As long as you are careful not to let them rub against each other too much, it should be fine.
