why cant i download and install Itunes for my macbook mac pro 12.4 it tells me to get an earlier version what do i do?

The iTunes app for Macs was discontinued and replaced when macOS Catalina was released. It cannot be installed on a Mac running Catalina, Big Sur or your 12.4 Monterey. See: What happened to iTunes? - Apple Support
