Why cant I mark my airpods pro as lost?

I lost my AirPods pro in the case. I have the latest update and have all the necessary settings on. I dont understand why i can’t mark my AirPods as lost. The Find My app is completely useless and needs an upgrade. You should be able to track the case and not just the AirPods

I also have this issue with 3rd gen AirPods. 'Find my' is activated and I can see their last location, but I don't have the 'mark as lost' option (I have the mark as lost option for other devices).

Every time this question comes up, the only answer is Find your lost AirPods – Apple Support (UK) - but that doesn't help when the 'mark as lost' option isn't showing.

Help appreciated! :)
