Macbook pro 14in m1 cracking sound when memory pressure is yellow

Hi there,

My macbook pro 14 in m1 makes cracking sound while music is playing when the memory pressure is yellow (shown in activity monitor). However, when I reduce the memory pressure to green, the cracking sound goes away.

Is this a hardware issue that I need to return my mac? Or, this is a software issue that can be fixed after the next update?

Thanks a lot.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.4

It is Prudent to run the diagnostic as suggested.

If no faults are found, remember that Smooth sound generation requires the continuous attention of the processor, which cannot occur when you allow your memory situation to deteriorate into the yellow Zone. Your Mac is busily shuffling stuff in and out of RAM memory, and compressing and de-compressing blocks of memory, and can not provide the complete processor attention required for smooth sounds.

Quit unused Applications and avoid so many memory-intensive tasks if you want smooth sounds.

Have you used Apple Diagnostics to see if you can identify a hardware issue as the cause of this issue? If not, give that a try now: Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

Prepare your Mac

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Disconnect all external devices except keyboard, mouse, display, Ethernet connection (if applicable), and connection to AC power.
3. Make sure that your Mac is on a hard, flat, stable surface with good ventilation.

Start Apple Diagnostics

Apple silicon

1. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button as your Mac starts up.
2. Release when you see the startup options window, which includes a gear icon labeled Options.
