To export the photos into folders named like the album, you would have to create the folders manually and export each album separately, or use an apple Script; here is an example: Export Albums to Folders - Jacques Rioux's Script

I have not tested if this old script is still working on the current system version.

Hi

You can do it two ways.

1 - take a copy of the complete photos library and put it on a properly formatted external drive (APFS or MacOS extended).

Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac – Apple Support (UK)

2 - Select all the images you want to store externally, then file>export - choose jpg as kind, maximum quality and full size. If you select subfolder format as moment name, you'll get subfolders with location and date information. If you want to keep your album structure, you'll have to do it manually one album at a time.

If you want to keep the unmodified originals instead of edited versions, then export unmodified original instead of just export.

When you use "Show in Finder", it will show you the location of your complete Photos Library, a single package, with the photos hidden inside. You can certainly just drag the complete Photos Library to the external drive to have a backup copy, as Tony has shown in the first reply: Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac – Apple Support (UK) This would have the advantage, that the complete library with all your work (albums, folders, adjustments, metadata, projects, shared albums) will be saved. The copy of the library may be incomplete, however, if you are using iCloud Photos and not all photos have currently been downloaded from iCloud. And you will not see the photos neatly arranged in folders in the Finder, as they are bundled in them library package. What has been your intention? Do you want a safety copy of the Photos Library or of your photos in the Finder?
