Actually you can have as many AppleIDs as you wish. Each will need its own unique primary email address. However, with any Apple mobile device, only one AppleID can be signed into any given Apple service at a time. On Mac’s each unique user account in MacOS can use its own AppleID for Apple services.

So there are some limitations:

  1. you can only change the AppleID used in the App Store once every 90 days.
  2. every time you sign one AppleID out of iCloud and sign in with another, if you don’t erase the device you’ll end up merging data across the AppleIDs.
  3. every time you sign an AppleID out of iCloud and sign in with a new one, you’ll need a trusted device available to receive a 2FA code.
  4. separate devices using separate AppleIDs cannot sync iCloud data, so will have their own contacts, notes, calendars, photos, messages, etc.

Remember you don’t need a new AppleID just because you change email services. Just update the primary email used with your AppleID to the new email address to keep all the data and purchases tied to that AppleID.
