How iPhone battery cycles are ACTUALLY calculated

Hallo everyone :)


I know battery cycle are calculated every 25% (which count as a quarter of the cycle) BUT...... the worse scenario - how much of the cycle will be counted when battery will start charge at 24% and stop at 76%?


Will it be 3 quarters because it charged JUST 52% (76-24) and because it is OVER 50%.


OR.... will it be 4 quarters (1 cycle) because it started in range between 0-25% and stopped in range between 75-100%?


Because then the PERFECT charging point would be go down to 26% and stop charge at 74% (just HALF QUARTER) because it started in range between 25-50% and stopped in range between 50-75%.


Thank you for helping me because as you can see those 2% can mean just quarter of the charge or half cycle which is a lot after using iPhone for 1-2 years.


P.S. I got automation Shortcut set to play Sound at 70% to unplug iPhone which is weird I cannot do this at 74% (must be done every 5% - why? :( )

A charge cycle is 0% to 100% or any values that add up to 100%. It has nothing to do with “ranges,” so 0-20%, 21% - 40%, 41% to 60%,61% - 93%, 94% - 100% is one charge cycle. You are overthinking this. Just charge the phone overnight, every night, with Optimized Battery Charging enabled and you will get the maximum possible useful life out of your battery.

Apple didn't lie but they also didn't say that. You're misreading the article.


For instance, you might use 75% of your battery’s capacity one day, then recharge it fully overnight. If you use 25% the next day, you will have discharged a total of 100%, and the two days will add up to one charge cycle.

What is quoted above is a hypothetical example. We can tell this by the use of phrases such as "For instance" and "you might"..


One could easily and correctly, say, "For instance, you might use 74% of your battery's capacity one day, then fully recharge it overnight. If you use 26% the next day, you will have discharged a total of 100% and the two days will add up to one charge cycle." In both cases, the total is 100% and that's what matters.

Yes, that's correct.

How do you know that if Apple do not say that?

Lawrence knows this because he's been working and studying in this field for probably longer than you've been alive. And because, Apple did say that. They said one charge cycle is equal to 100% discharge and charge.

Especially when they did not say any random charge and discharge adds up to 100% gives 1 cycle

The also didn't say that 51% discharge on one day and 49% on the next add up to 100%. Or that 12% and 88% add up to 100%. The gave one possible example out of many.

I drill that problem as battery replacement is not cheap :(

I have no idea what that means. Could you explain what "drill" means in this context?
