Opening PDF Fillable Forms - Apple Products

I’m having issues opening pdf fillable forms - from a government website (they have told me to use Internet Explorer!!). I’m not the only one - nobody seems to know the answer. I’ve tried to open these forms in pretty much all Browsers (Safari, Edge, Firefox, Chrome). It’ll go into my Acrobat app and say “if this form does not open in 2 seconds download the latest version of Adobe”. The form never opens, and I have the latest version of Adobe. If it’s opening in Preview, how do I change it, stop it or use it? This affects all Apple products - iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Thank you.

Thank you. Yes, I have done all of the things mentioned here. I frequently open them on my work computer which is is a whole different set-up by our IT guy, using Google Chrome. I have no trouble using the fillable forms on my work computer. A friend, who also uses all Apple products, asked me for a form which I opened with no issues in my work computer. When I emailed it to her she could not open it on her Mac. She asked her kids to try on their various Apple products and they couldn’t open it either. I’m wondering if Apple devices have a default for Adobe which only opens them in Preview. I’m attaching what I get when I download. It never opens, I just get a pop up that says that I need to download Adobe for Mac - which I have done.

Hey there, Dianne,

If the issue you're experiencing occurs across multiple browsers on multiple devices, the issue is likely to be with the one thing common between them: the PDF itself and/or its origin website, or even the network you're using.

That said, we do want to ensure we are thorough in our troubleshooting to absolutely rule out any issues with your Apple products. To do this, we recommend:

  1. Attempting to edit a fillable PDF from a website other than the government site you are having this issue on
  2. Attempting to edit the specific PDF on a non-Apple device, such as a Windows PC
  3. See if the issue occurs on another internet network (such as by going from Wi-Fi to cellular, or another Wi-Fi network)
  4. If you use a VPN or other security software, disable or completely remove it, then try again.
  5. Make sure all of your software is up-to-date:

Best!
