iPad Air & Word app

I recently bought an iPad air and I tried to open a word document. It asks me to sign in to create and edit. I tried signing in with my Microsoft account but it keeps taking me back to the sign in page. Note that I’m not having any issues accessing word on my iphone or old iPad. Just the iPad air. I’ve used the free version for a long time on my old iPad so i suppose it’s not a subscription issue. Can anyone relate and have any suggestions?
