my messages aren't going to my ipad anymore

i just got a new phone a little while back and i just realized none of the texts have gone over to my ipad when they previously were, i did a data transfer from my ipad and my phone is connected to it still but but the texts don't seem to transfer over. i tried looking up solutions but tue options don't show up. my phone number isn't an option in my ipad like it use to be and there's no spot to connect it over on my phone like it was saying either so i'm not sure what to do
