I'd like to have only the unread emails count from inboxes in my Favorites displayed in the badge on the Mail icon in the dock. Is there a way to do this?
MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.4
The info on the support page is what made me think I *could* select specific mailboxes to include in the badge count, but when I go to Notifications settings for Mail, I only see an option to display or not display the badge.
Under my Favorites, I have the inboxes for 2 accounts (mailboxes), but I have additional accounts/mailboxes as well. By default, the badge icon shows the total number of unread messages across *all* mailboxes/inboxes. I'm hoping to be able to adjust it so that it only counts the unread emails in the inboxes listed as Favorites.
Make a Smart Mailbox that includes all message from each of those two accounts.
Set that Smart Mailbox as the source of the unread count.
However, while selectable, I am having problems getting it to stick. Hopefully yours will stay selected.
i wanted to be able to flag unread emails in 2 accounts, so it looks like that’s not an option. but at least i now have a compromise solution option. i appreciate your help working through this.
Why do you think it is not? Does it not stick for you, too?
Are you having a problem creating the Smart Mailbox that includes mailboxes from multiple accounts?
That in your screenshot is in the Notifications preferences, but when you go the mail app, then click on mail at the top of the screen, then click on preferences, then click on the general tab, here is where you should be able to choose the mailboxes.

You said "but when I go to Notifications settings for Mail, I only see an option to display or not display the badge" and that is correct because you are in the in the Notifications preferences, but when you open the mail app, then click on the word mail at the top of the screen, then click on preferences, then click on the general tab, here is where you should be able to choose the mailboxes.

There is a setting just for dock unread count.
Not sure what you mean. All Inboxes is included in Favourites.

I set up the 2 smart mailboxes, but I can't figure out how to set them as the source of unread count.
Preferences > General Tab > Dock Unread Count.
You should only have one Smart Mailbox. You can only select one folder for the unread count.
