Express transit not working on London Tube

Express transit not recognized at card reader. If I unlock my phone I can use Apple Pay with the same Amex card I have set up for Express Transit but I have to unlock phone, double click for Apple Pay, use face recognition and then touch phone to reader. This defeats the purpose of Apple Express Transit. I am visiting from US. It is as if phone does not recognize this as a transit charge. Express transit works flawlessly on New York City subways. Any suggestions?

Hi Timfitts,

Using Apple Pay to ride transit may only be supported in certain regions or transit systems.

The transit payment options supported in the UK are below:

United Kingdom

Arriva UK Bus. Accepts payment cards in the Wallet app.*
Brighton & Hove Buses. Accepts payment cards in Wallet app*.
First Bus Group. Accepts payment cards in the Wallet app*.
London: Transport for London (TfL). Accepts payment cards in the Wallet app*.
Metrobus. Accepts payment cards in Wallet app*.
Oxford Bus Company. Accepts payment cards in Wallet app*.

*Express Mode supported.

If you're using one of those approved transit systems but it still won't work, we'd recommend reaching out to the local transit agency to confirm they support it.

Cheers!
