If your iPhone is too old, it would not be compatible with the newer software updates.

Just in case.......Turn off the cellular connection and connect the iPhone to a good strong Wi-Fi signal with a good Internet connection and run the update check again.
Check for, and if found, remove the beta profile. Restart the phone and check again for the proper update. You will need to connect to a WiFi network and charge the battery.
