Internet Connection Issue

My MacBook (M1, 2020, Big Sur 11.6.7)was running fine until I did the most recent update yesterday. Now, it won’t connect to Wi-Fi. All other devices and TV are connected so that’s not the problem. I ran the diagnostic and it came up with DNS Resolution Failure. I tried to ping a URL and it said unknown host. I pinged 127.0.0.1and it worked. ( 54 transmitted, 54 received, 0% packet loss) I’ve rebooted in safe mode and tried to connect and still nothing. Any suggestions??

That very light grey is normal and indicates that this is the dns that your mac picked up automatically from your router.

You can try restarting your router and see if that helps. You can also add one of the public DNS servers in there.

The easiest to remember is 8.8.8.8 (that’s from Google), but freedns also provides public DNS servers.

To add one, click + and type the IP. It will appear in black. If you remove any additional DNS servers your mac will revert back to the default one you see now.

More than one antivirus app - This computer has multiple antivirus apps installed.

Uninstall Symantec and Webroot, and do not install a third party antivirus software.

They conflict with the built-in security - and with one another - and offer zero protection.

In all likelihood they are the cause of your problem.

You're right. Not only it is not needed, it is a bad piece of software that causes system slowdowns and instability.

The best way to uninstall is to follow their own instructions. If it comes with an uninstaller program, use it. Otherwise check with them for how to properly uninstall. A quick search online should get you there, like "uninstall norton mac"
