Backup Charger: 29w USB-C Power Adapter

Do you recommend buying the 30W USB-C Power Adapter as a backup for a 29W USB-C Power Adapter to charge a MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016), or if it important to only use the 29W as a replacement for the original?

You can use the 30 watt, or any larger power adapter (e.g., 61W, 96W, etc). The MacBook will not draw more power than it is designed to.
