Deleting All My Music Freed Up No Space

I went to a concert last night where I was taking lots of videos, and whenever I go to shows I delete all of the music from my phone in order to make sure I have enough space to film (I use iTunes to sync files from buying the CDs rather than using Apple Music). Usually to do this, I go into Settings and delete my entire library, but last night, I accidentally deleted the app first instead of the music itself. Despite this, when I redownloaded the app to fix it, the music was gone there and in Settings where I would usually delete it from. I asked Siri to play a song and she couldn't, and I made sure the music was definitely deleted, which I could also tell because I still managed to fit over a half hour of video on my phone, despite the storage saying I only had 2gb left the whole time. After uploading all of the videos to YouTube and then deleting them from my camera roll this morning (including my recently deleted), I went to sync my music back onto my phone and it didn't work, telling me I needed 9gb more of free space to sync it. I SHOULD have the free space because all of the music I had previously and all of the videos I took are gone, but for some reason none of the space is free now and I can't get my music back. How do I fix this?

iPhone 11, iOS 15

Hello lukemothstoflames,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's check to see what is using up your storage and see how much available storage you have:

Use your device to check its storage
Go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage. You might see a list of recommendations for optimizing your device's storage, followed by a list of installed apps and the amount of storage each one uses. Tap an app's name for more information about its storage. Cached data and temporary data might not be counted as usage.

More details can be found here: How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Good Luck!

I just had this happen as well. I deleted the Music app, with its 6.7GB of storage, and GOT NOTHING BACK. It is SO frustrating. I can't even update my other apps because of a "storage full" situation that SHOULD NOT EXIST.

Come on, Apple. You can do better than canned responses.

You can't "tap an app's name" if it no longer exists on your phone and (even after several hard resets) you didn't get your MULTIPLE GIGS of storage back.
