DNS Settings in Network settings

Hi All,

I'm running Monterey on an M1 Macbook Air. I noticed that there is an entry in my Network settings called "DNS Settings #1" that points to "https://dns.quad9.net/dns-query" don't recall adding this configuration and I can't delete it (the `-` button is greyed out). It's not a profile and I can't figure out where it is coming from. This is my personal system, so it's not something pushed by corporate or IT. Is anyone familiar with this or how to remove it?

Thanks,

Ben

If you are using a VPN disable it—

https://quad9.net/

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

>System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS make some change

Change DNS settings in Network preferences on Mac

Long shot: in addition to the above, check whether your Wi-Fi router is configured to offer Quad9 as the DNS server for its DHCP clients. This is the place that most DHCP clients get their DNS settings.

(I would not expect to see that listed separately in Network Settings—and don’t see this display for the local DNS server configuration—but don’t have an easy way to test with Quad9 set.)

Add-on content-filtering apps and security apps as mentioned above are a good possibility, too.

It wasn't my router, which is dolling out a local DNS server. I suspect I installed a quad9 profile at some point, which then installed the network setting; and then deleted the profile, which left the settings in some weird, undeletable state. I decided to reinstall the OS completely.

Thanks,

Ben
