Search bar on IPad has turned black

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. Your search bar is black due to your iPad being in Dark Mode. Does that sound right?

If so, you can change it back to Light Mode from Settings > Display & Brightness as mentioned in Use Dark Mode on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. You said when you go to that page, you can't work out how to get Dark Mode. Does the option for Light Mode not appear? Or what happens when you select it?
