Remove menulet from menu bar

I need to remove a menulet from the status menu bar, and relaunch its app after renewing the app subscription. MacOS User Guide says hold Command key while dragging the icon out of the menu bar, but it simply jumps back in, even after dragging it to Trash. I'm running 10.15.7 with all security updates. What to do?

John, you're right. I simply deleted the app and "bought" it again for free. Thanks for the tip!

The app is the "Forecast Bar" weather forecast from the Apple store. The developer says "The icon must be removed, then re-launch from Launchpad, or shut down and restart," neither of which works. Right-clicking on the icon does nothing. I guess I could uninstall the app from Launchpad, and then buy it anew, spending another $5.

Any experts have more ideas? Thanks in advance!
