Free music player for Macbook Air and ipad mini 6?

I've recently bought a Macbook Air and an ipad mini 6, and am a bit horrified that after 6 months I have to pay for Apple Music. I don't want to stream music; I simply want to be able to play my own music, that I have bought and downloaded; i.e. a simple, free music player. I've just wasted about an hour searching online but nothing seems to work; either the app's are not free after a certain time, or there are functionality issues. Please could someone recommend me a simple free music player?

I believe the 90 day limit is the time after your purchase in which you must accept the offer of the free trial to take advantage of it. You don't have to accept the trial if you're not interested. You ought to be able to dismiss the offer and proceed to using Music normally to manage your local files and/or stream/download previous purchases. What exactly do you see on screen? Is there a skip or no thanks button, or something similar?

You don't have to use or pay for the Apple Music subscription service. You can use the Music app on Mac computers running macOS 10.15 Catalina or later to manage and play your own Music and anything you might have bought from the iTunes Store.

See Apple Music - Apple. The 'Apple Music' service is distinct from the app called 'Music' on newer Macs, that people also sometimes refer to as 'Apple Music'. You've been seeing an ad/offer for the service.

Thanks @turingtest2. In that case why does Apple Music always show me payment info every time I log in; '6 months free', after this a monthly fee...? The info online also seems to indicate that after 90 days you have to pay: https://offers.applemusic.apple/en-gb/six-month-offer

Thanks. Typically it's not showing me that message now; it seems to only appear occasionally. I will take care to look out for a way of dismissing it; I didn't see anything like this before but I think I just clicked past it and it vanished. If the app is free anyway I don't understand why there would be a 'free trial'... ? 🤔
