The article states "Studio Display supports a resolution of 5120 x 2880 on these devices" but does not include the 2015 MBP. Does this mean the 2015 MBP is not supported at all, or just not at the 5K resolution stated. I'm satisfied using at a sub-5K resolution, just don't want to purchase if it's not supported at all.

Just the resolution. The 2015 Mac does not support 5K, so no way to produce a 5K signal for the Studio Display.
It can be used with the 4K resolution the Macbook Pro does support.
You will need an adapter however: Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple
