What is the Default Mail Font
As the title suggests, what is the default 'Message list' and 'Message' font and size in Monterey?

Message list is System Font Regular 12 and Message is Helvetica 12.

Try changing it back to System Font Regular 11.
Was worth checking. It's not listed on all my Macs either. FWIW, Helvetica 12 comes the closest.
Even though I appreciate your input, it does not apply to the point I made in my original post; I am looking for the Mail default font used for the 'Message list font' ... we now know it goes by the name of 'System Regular Font', but where to find it in the settings menu (in Fonts & Colors where you'd change the font for this message list) is a mystery thus far.
Thank you. Next issue, 'System Font Regular' is not listed! I checked the search function, the different font types, 'all types' ... nowhere to be found. Unless I truly overlooked it five times.
You didn't miss anything. It's not normally listed. Try looking in "Recently Used".
You're welcome.
If you type this command in the Terminal it will reset the Message List to the default. Make sure Mail is closed first.
defaults delete -app Mail MessageListFont
My font is always shown on the line with Bold, Italics and etc.
Start a message and it should be there.

Are you on an M1 Mac? The code I posted works on my Intel Mac.
Nevermind. The command does not work on an M1 Mac.
Tried; getting the following message. (My Terminal skills are mediocre to say the least, so I don't know what else I could try following this output:
[xxx@xxx] ~ % defaults delete -app Mail MessageListFont
2022-07-02 12:45:28.701 defaults[xxxx:xxxxxx]
Domain (com.apple.mail) not found.
Defaults have not been changed.
Tried; there are no items listed in 'Recently Used' either.
Alright. Thank you for the help. If I end up finding a solution, I will update this thread/discussion.
