Software Update need authentication of user

I am trying to update to macOS Monterey 12.4. It is trying to authenticate user. I am not sure what password it needs.

If this is your own personal machine then

It would be your admin psswd for your account.


You can try from a Safeboot if you have an issue


SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Login and test your update


Reboot as normal



If your machine is bound to Enterprise/MDM/Active Directory or some such talk to your IT or business support
