Apple watch open water swim app

My open water swim app pauses after 10 seconds. I have removed the auto-pause. Do I need to have it next to my skin? it has been over my wetsuit. I need this to work, this is why I spend $300 on the watch!

The watch has to be in contact with your skin or the sensors won't work.

iPhone ignores pause time during exercise on Apple Watch When I swim with Apple Watch and pause during the exercise, Apple Watch correctly stops the timer. But when I finish swimming and press “Done”, the paused time is not taken into account on my iPhone. For instance, If I swim for 30 minutes with 5 minutes pause in between, Apple Watch says I swam for 25 minutes, but my iPhone says 30 minutes. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Swim not showing up I do not have the swim option on my Apple Watch series 3. Even if I go to settings it’s not there
