I have searched all over for a setting and can’t find anything. There are several games I’d like to play in landscape, and they even claim in the App Store that they can be played in landscape, but they just won’t do it. Surely there’s a setting somewhere that I’ve missed?

Can you double check to see whether you have the Screen Orientation lock set to ON. Please read below:
Lock or unlock the screen orientation
You can lock the screen orientation so that it doesn’t change when you rotate iPhone.
Open Control Center, then tap 
.
When the screen orientation is locked, 
appears in the status bar (on supported models).
If the Screen Orientation is set to ON as above, then unlock the Screen Orientation by tapping on the symbol and the highlighting of the icon is removed.

Can’t get games to go landscape
