System Preference Notifications - unable to confirm

Sorry if this is a repost, I couldn’t remember what I’d typed before when searching.

The issue I have is new applications are needing permissions, yet when the pop-up shows, I’m unable to confirm the selection; Allow / Don’t Allow. Refering to the search from before, this was the Terminal function that was recommended: tccutil reset All

I’ve tried numerous times, with a restart as well. The task completes, but the issue remains. The only remedy I’ve found is to log out, but you already know how tedious that can be, especially if there’s new permissions that show. Please help me comfirm the dialog choices and get things back to speed.

  • I’m on a fresh install of Big Sur, updated to current 11.6.7

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

There appear to have quite a number of people with this issue, but most people don't have it.

Maybe we can find something in the report that could lead us to a solution.

‘System dialog boxes won’t close, macos system notification windows won’t close’…I’ve yet to find a solution to this on the web. One post, in particular, a ‘specialists’ only recommendation was to reinstall macOS… I’m hoping to get more of a diagnosis than this, please.

Again, I just installed Big Sur yesterday evening. There were 2 complete installs for a separate issue entirely, but things were fine.

Using this Terminal function: tccutil reset All , seemed to work initially after reset, but the problem came back for some reason. During that time I barely opened anything and was only restructuring the naming convention of different folders on a separate drive - thats all.

  • I’ll try the function once more with a reset. If that doesn’t work I’m considering to see if ONYX will be able to fix it.

I have noticed the amount of ‘likes’ or ‘I have this problem too’ on other postings. All attempts at troubleshooting this thing myself are exhausted…

Even though it’s not a huge issue - workflow, and just the normal standard of usage really end up taking a back seat. Hopefully you can figure it out and make a lot of people happy. Thanks for your time Luis.

Did the above mentioned tasks, including Onyx. There were a few dialog boxes that showed, I believe one or two looked similar to the posted examples. A couple prompted ‘Opening System Preferences’, which once clicked, that’s what happened - the others simply worked.

I suspect this was because the application was already listed within Security & Privacy. In this new example, the application was not listed, after being prompted and then manually opening System Preferences. I don’t know why this is the case, but it seems like a clue.

Any suggestions? I’m thinking about trying to upgrade to Monterey again, but unfortunately this was the reason I downgraded back to Big Sur; the same issue. If it happens again, once upgraded, that would defeat the purpose of my efforts for the past two days..

Ok just to be clear - I know CleanMyMac is frowned upon…but I’ve used it for years without issue, and I’ve switched off many settings, in hopes of, not accidentally trashing system reliant items.

Please hear me out.

This is, in no way, me trying to trump your knowledge of what the issue could be. If you think CMM might be the problem, I’ll trust your instincts and we’ll take it from there. I just wanted to clarify, that even though it’s installed, I try to be somewhat responsible in its use.

Currently I only scan for:

Old Updates / Xcode Junk / Broken Login Items / Unused Disk Images / Broken Preferences (hmm..🤔) / Downloads & Deleted Users - everything else is unchecked and kept intact for system default. I also find there’s a few other notable and convenient features available like: Managing Launch Agents/Login Items and Space Lens, which gives a clear overview of where everything’s going. For novice users, like myself, this brings peace of mind - but there’s not much I could say that you haven’t already heard.

I only said that because, again, it’s a somewhat ‘taboo‘ app. But I’m no spokesperson, so if the details were a bit much, I apologize. Lastly, Avast has saved my moderately ‘irresponsible’ browsing habits numerous times…so I’m really hoping it’s not that.
