Connecting ipad to Mac - screen flashing

When I connect my ipad to my Mac (OS Catalina), iTunes opens and where my ipad is shown it flashes between the ipad on the left side of iTunes and Library. It is as if it wants to constantly back up photographs but cannot do it. My Mac screen shows "Trying to import" but does nothing other than stated above.

Also, my ipad constantly tells me that it cannot download photographs from my Albums as there is insufficient memory. But memory shows 30Gb usage against 32Gb memory. I have deleted over 1000 photographs but the message is constant. I cannot add photographs to Facebook either!

I cannot do anything with my ipad and Mac. How can I sort this out?

iPad, iPadOS 14

Hi

With catalina you should be using Finder, not Itunes for connecting to your iPad.

If you try that, does it still flash?

Regarding your storage. 2GM storage free is not even enough for your iPad to be able to run it's IOS effectively. You need to clear quite a lot more space.
