old issue, new issue, what changed?
How is that external WD formatted(?)
Typically erasing /reformatting/ initialize any new external drive is recommended: GUID/apfs unless you 'co-usage' of Windows....
If you are mounted to the drive from the Finder sidebar, highlight the drive, Command i opens the info pane.
If NTFS then update your third party software

Thank you so much. Followed the link and by now the external device is erased and reformated. Does it mean that I can start storing my files onto it even though I am still disabled as an owner?
Thank you for your great help
Well, I certainly would try, why would you not...(?)
drag and drop something onto the drive. Open it make changes... then delete all if you are going to use it for a dedicated TM backup.
Command i opens the info pane make changes if necessary, unlock the padlock...
I suspect this would be telling. If you still have an issue then report that back and go from there.
MacOS can read, but not write drives that come from the factory formatted as Windows New Technology File System (NTFS). Microsoft has declared that this format is microsoft proprietary, and they will sue anyone who uses it without paying them royalties.
Best practice is to completely ERASE such a drive (after selecting it by manufacturer DEVICE-name) and give it a Mac friendly or more universal format instead.
