apple watch SE broken

Hello, I bought new apple watch SE and i given to my friend because he have birthday, i am big fan of apple i have apple watch s3 s1 with no problem, but my friend opened the box and already battery is leaked and ruined his apple watch. I heard a serial number would help. Thanks u for response.
